Cutting Through The Crap And Making A Living On The Internet

Over the last few days, Make Money Online bloggers and Internet Marketers have been popping up all over the place telling us that they have had enough of the ’social’ aspect of blogging and just want to concentrate on actually making money online.

The reasons for being a little more ‘anti-social’ are many.

They include being shafted by some of your own (less loyal) readers, as happened to Victor Franqui when he was trying to show his readers how to Make Money Blogging.

They also include a suspicion that you may have set Google alarms ringing with your extremely helpful posts on link building techniques, as has happened to Grizzly whilst doing his very best to show How To Make Money Online For Beginners.

And even more recently Courtney Tuttle has written about how those undertaking Internet Marketing have got it wrong in following a too literal interpretation of the saying ‘content is king’. According to Court, it’s not so much about content (quality or otherwise), it’s about well-targetted, well-keyworded backlinks. (See additional note below about where this link now takes you…)

None of these bloggers have benefitted that much from producing a large number of posts for their regular readers. In fact, in the first two cases at least, having regular readers has probably been a hindrance to making money on the net. And in the third case, although Court has gained authority from his site and has been able to make money from the personal coaching in internet marketing he advertises there, even he is bemoaning the fact that out of nearly 400 posts on his blog, less than 20 of them have produced most of the traffic.

And when you get right down to it, writing a blog just for regular readers can actually cut into the time you need to spend in order to make money online.

True, you may enjoy writing what you hope will be quality content. I bet I am not the only one who enjoys being told that an article she has written is excellent, or thought provoking, or whatever…

You may also enjoy the social aspect of building up a ’social blog’. After all, it’s a cut throat world trying to make a living on the internet, and it’s good to have other blogging friends to compare notes with. It’s nice to get comments on your blog and to make comments on theirs.

But none of this actually makes you any money.

Where is this leading to?

Well, over the last few weeks, along with continually buiding new adult blogs and sites, I have been building a number of blogs in quite different niches to the MMO niche. In fact, some of these are niches even those who know me would not believe… But these blogs are starting to get some decent traffic and my stats are giving me some pretty effective keyword terms to target. For most of them there are also some pretty nice affiliate programs which I am now ready to try.

So… I have decided to really concentrate on these blogs, building up the backlinks, targetting my keywords specifically in line with both search terms and sponsers and seeing what this brings. I am very hopeful of decent results.

The downside of this is that I will not be commenting much anywhere for a while and I will not be producing more ‘thoughts’ content for this blog, at least, until after the other niche blogs are working effectively. However, you may see the occasional ‘make money online’ post here, if I find something I think that search engine visitors might like.

But please don’t raise your hands in horror over this, my few regular readers. After all, it’s all about Making Money On The Internet

________________

Addition:

When I made that post, Courtney Tuttle was riding high on the Internet, the article I originally linked to was receiving gave credit from internet marketers (and some controversy in the comments). However, shortly after that post was published, Court appears to have had a spot of bother with ranking in Google for his key terms (and even for his own name!).

As a result, Court took down the original post which argued that content isn’t king - backlinks are. He substituted it for the obsequious post you will find in that link. Basically saying “I was wrong, content is king.. yada, yada….”

When you are an experienced (and usually successful) internet marketer like Courtney Tuttle, and this is your main source of income, I guess you have to try to ‘put things right with Big G’ or go under completely (at least for your ‘flagship site’ anyway…).

Do I believe the sincerity in Court’s ‘updated’ post? No.

Do I think he was ’slapped’ by Google for writing it? Perhaps…. but perhaps not. There are many reasons for receiving a ‘Google slap’ and there could well have been others here, but it is not the point of this addition to my original post to suggest what they are…

I would hate to think that Google can play ‘Big Brother’ to such an extent that ‘it’ doesn’t allow ’subversion in the ranks’, but there again, who knows…? Being the cynic that I am, I do think this is an entirely possible scenario. However, in Court’s case, I don’t really think this is the real cause of that ’slap’.

I’ll leave that up to you to decide…

A Money Making Tip I Could Not Refuse

When it comes to making money on the internet, it’s hard work. No question.

I began to try to see if I could make money in mainstream back in April of this year. I was happy with the cash coming in from my adult work, but wanted to cover all the options. ‘Just in case’.

But whilst I have been building up an online mainstream presence, I have found so many scams it’s incredible, so I am very wary of any new ‘money making scheme‘ I find.

Nevertheless, a few days ago, I was tempted to try a ‘no brainer money maker‘ and I did succumb.

I discovered a free ebook. Yeah, I know, many ebooks are free but there’s always a catch. You have to give your email address for a start and then you know you will most likely be bombarded with ‘offers you simply cannot refuse’.

But this one didn’t want my email address. You can download it no questions asked.

And the strange thing was, although the ebook was full of great marketing tips, the author recommended you save them for later and, if you really couldn’t wait to find out the best tip of all, skip straight to the last page.

I’m an impatient soul, so I scanned the content (which is actually pretty good) and then did just that.

And I loved the money making tip on the last page.
I couldn’t believe how simple it was!

And I decided to try it out.

Hmmm, so where’s the catch? Have I been scammed?

Well, I have to admit I was a little sheepish at first. Here was I, a person who prides herself in not being taken for an idiot and I had just gone along with an internet marketing scheme which said it could make me a continuos income which was almost passive and I would get 100% of the profits. Was I really that stupid?

So I left things a few days before writing about it here. Instead, I tried this little scheme out on some of my other blogs and in forum posts.

And it actually worked!

Now this is not a ‘get rich quick’ plan by any means. But it is a nice extra bit of income coming in from very little work. And I never refuse that!

Perhaps you have heard of this scheme to make money before. It is called The Ultimate SuperTip by Harvey Segal. It has been around for some time and quite a few people are using it very successfully. But it was a new one to me. And I just loved the way the whole thing panned out. That is the best bit of all.

Curious? Sceptical?

So was I. All I can say is that it worked for me.

So if you want to have a peek at one of the most original ways to make money I have found so far. Click on the banner below. You won’t have to leave your email address, so it’s quite safe to download the ebook and read it at your leisure.

But don’t forget to look at the last page. It’s a real eye opener! I love it!

You really can make money from this!

And don’t forget to read that last page You’ll love it too!

Arguments For And Against Having A ‘DoFollow’ Blog

NB and SEO will soon return with their next chat about how to make money from blogs. And one of the subjects they will be discussing will be getting backlinks from commenting on ‘dofollow’ blogs. This is one methods for getting backlinks recommended by many in the make money online business. Therefore, I will use it in NB and SEO’s continuing story.

Nevertheless, I personally have very mixed feelings about the whole concept of ‘dofollow’ commenting. I’ll tell you why. (And of course, this applies to self-hosted Wordpress blogs).

Quite a few successful money making bloggers operate a ‘dofollow’ comments policy on their blogs. Some, like JK Stokes, who writes the excellent Internet Marketing With Joe, offer even more. They use the ‘keyword luv’ plugin, which allows the person making the comment to make a backlink with their chosen keywords, while at the same time leaving their name, which is not linked, and thus they get link juice where it is wanted rather than where it is not.

Setting up your blog as ‘dofollow’ seems like a good idea for new bloggers. You can advertise your blog on dofollow lists and sit back and wait for new commenters to appear. Your hope, of course, is that many like what they read and stay around, not simply to get some ‘comment link luv’ but to become a regular member of your blogging community, adding comment content to your posts and perhaps giving you a nice keyword rich link from their own blogs. And if they sign up for your RSS feed, you can display the numbers proudly in your sidebar.

All this not only makes you feel good and recognised as a blogger with quality content, but more importantly, as well as giving out some link luv, you are getting it back and possible with a more effective link attached.

Fair enough, but is following a ‘dofollow’ comments policy worth it? How will it affect your position in the SERPs and, if you are interested in the money aspect, how will it help you make a living online? Furthermore, if you are interested in the PR aspect of all this, how will following a ‘dofollow’ comment policy affect your blog’s ranking, if at all?

Let’s be honest here. No one really knows the answers to all those questions. (I bet even Matt Cutts himself gets a little confused at times…). We can all only make educated guesses, based on our own and others’ experience. We can, if we choose, look at some of the arguments for and against using ‘dofollow’ commenting.

Arguments For Having A Dofollow Comment Policy:

On the one hand, you have those who insist that, if you have a good anti-spam plugin in operation, together with an effective comment moderation policy, you will be fine. You can protect your blog from being overtaken by spammers and other undesirables. This may take a little more effort, but it’s worth it when you can enjoy creating a large community of commentators on your blog.

Dofollow advocates argue there is no harm in giving away ‘google juice’ to whoever provides a relevant comment on your blog, as long as you keep an eye on where that comment is linking to.

Some Dofollow advocates (particularly those who operate a large number of blogs) also argue the win win aspect can be utilised to set up communities of dofollow blogs (both legitimate and non-legitimate) to give each other backlinks, rather than testing Google’s patience by linking too much between your own blogs…

Many dofollow advocates argue that if you are reasonably diligent, giving away ‘google juice’ this way will not affect you much at all.

Arguments For Having A Nofollow Comment Policy:

At the other extreme, you can find the staunch advocates of ‘nofollow’ commenting. Many of these will also insist that you use your own name, rather than a keyword, in your comment.

Many staunch ‘nofollow’ advocates are acutely concerned about not incurring Google’s wrath and want to act according to ‘best practices’ in every possible way and then some. This, they argue, is the only way to try to ensure your blog’s comments do not affect your ranking and your position in the SERPS.

Staunch ‘nofollow’ advocates still want to build a community and receive relevant comments, but they are not prepared to deal with the growing stream of spam which, they argue, even the most diligent anti-spam mechanisms can let slip through the net.

Staunch ‘nofollow’ advocates will be very concerned about the website you are linking to in your comment. If it isn’t relevant, they will delete that comment. If the comment is relevant, but your website appears ‘dodgy’, they may include your comment (after all, it adds to the relevant words on the page..), but delete your link. In some cases they may even ‘akismet’ you instead.

However, those who advocate ‘nofollow’ are also very aware that, as their readership grows, so will their inability to control all those comments by checking and altering links. At some stage, they will be unable to moderate all their comments and will have to apply the ‘if a previous comment and not if 2 or more links’ policy. This will make them even more determined to always have the default, ‘nofollow’, in place.

They fear that giving away ‘google juice’ in comments is a very dicey area indeed. Furthermore, they fear that soon or later Google will decide that ‘dofollow’ commenting is being used simply to get backlinks and raise search engine positions (which of course, in many cases it is). If this happens, they argue, those who use dofollow commenting may receive a ‘Google slap’.

So who is right? Those who advocate dofollow’ commenting, or those who advocate ‘nofollow’?

Personally, I think the answer is probably even more complicated than this.

I have seen JFC from Op Tempo Money Saving Guides comment on a number of blogs including his own concerning How Google May Work Out Algorithms. I cannot link directly, because I cannot find the exact posts. But this is the gist of my translation of what he was getting at (and forgive me if I misread you JFC):

Google Algorithms are complicated. Does anyone at Google really have that much control over every SEO nuance which occurs? There are too many to even contemplate a human keeping up with them. So how on earth can Google manage its ‘quality’ criteria? There has to be some form of automatic ‘quality standards’ operation involving checks and balances.

So, if, you imagine a list of boxes to tick, with a site with no boxes ticked being the ‘perfect quality site’ Google is supposed to love: the ‘well-aged’ domain with loads of unique ‘useful’ content, loads of ‘quality’ backlinks, no evidence of interlinking, no monetisation, etc…. And you imagine the ‘worst site’ in Google’s eyes, with all boxes ticked, being the absolute spam site, brand new and full of keywords and adsense and showing evidence of ’strange linking practices’, etc…

What this gives you is a ‘checking system’ that the Algorithms (who can’t see after all…) are programmed to monitor. Quite a basic set up (and open to error and abuse of course…), but one which does seem to fit a little better with what goes on in the not very benevolent eyes of the machine that is Google.

How does this idea of a ‘check list’ fit in with ‘dofollow’ versus ‘nofollow’ commenting?

Well, let’s say that we all make mistakes. We cannot watch our backs the whole time (although many of us try our damndest to). So why take chances?

Are you sure that your ‘dofollow’ blog hasn’t anything else on ‘the check list’ to worry about?

Have you tried to ‘tweak the rules’ in any way? (And let’s face it, even white hat SEO is tweaking the rules, or else why bother to place so much emphasis on optimisation methods at all?).

Are you writing in niches which will immediately attract at least one tick in that check box? (and I’m not talking only about adult or pharmacy stuff here; plenty of health and make money niches fall into this category too).

Have you always followed a strict ‘only link to relevant sites’ policy? (Or have you put in a link or two for your other, different niche sites [and worse, were they on the same IP address], or even a link to a friend or relative, ‘because it was nice to do so’?).

Are you using your blog (or one of those you link to) deliberately to make money online (or at least you hope it will eventually)?

Are you even sure you haven’t made other mistakes which mean little to you, but may tick off those boxes?

And have you been doing all, or some of these things on a new domain?

After answering those questions I have decided not to ‘rock the boat’ any more than I may have already.

And that is why I prefer to keep my comments ‘nofollow’.

However, I am sure there are many who will disagree…

The Advantages Of Having An Authority Blog

Google has recently updated Page Rank and all over the blogosphere, people are cheering (or bemoaning) their fate.

Thoughts On Making Money On the Net received a PR3, as did A Bloggers Soapbox and Blogging Tips For Beginners. We were all pleased, even though we know that PR alone will not make you money, we see it as recognition of the hard work we have all put into our blogs, in terms of original ideas about making money, trying our best to give great advice for new bloggers and providing a great place for bloggers to communicate.

But the concept that PR alone will not make you money does need to be considered here. From working in adult blogging I know that a PR0 blog can get to the first page in Google and make good money, but I also know that a PR0 blog (especially an adult blog) will not provide the greatest way to get links for your other blogs, because the blog, popular as it may well be… will not be seen as an Authority Blog in the eyes of Google. Nevertheless, as I said in my previous post about backlinks, many links from a PR0 blog can still be very useful, most particularly if the blog is in the same niche.

But let’s consider Authority Blogs.

Google Page Rank is usually assigned on the basis of Authority (although not always, as fits the labyrinth which is Google PR…). But let’s make a stand here and say that Google PR is usually linked to Authority and then ask the question:

How Does Having An Authority Blog Help You Make Money On The Internet?

I’ll give you three examples:

Darren Rowse at ProBlogger has a PR6. He has many thousands of readers, posts regular tips and many bloggers read ProBlogger to get advice on how to make money on the internet. According to some sources, Darren makes a very good living as a professional blogger and Google definitely rates ProBlogger as an Authority Blog.

But does all that income come from ProBlogger? Of course not. Darren has a heap of blogs and sites making money for him, and he doesn’t mind talking about many of them in his posts. In fact, this helps them no end. Because he links to his other blogs as relevant examples within his posts, Google won’t mind at all. After all, ProBlogger is an authority blog. Google thinks we can trust its recommendations and acts accordingly. Now this is an excellent way to use an authority blog.

RT Cunningham’s blog Untwisted Vortex, An American Living In The Phippines is also very well respected (and a PR5 as I write this). RT has built up a large following of loyal readers by being a great blogger. He not only writes interesting and informative posts about The Philippines, he also provides excellent advice for bloggers on Monetization, Up-to-date Wordpress Optimisation Tips, Blog Reviews, and is an ardent advocate for using ‘dofollow’ on comments and provides a page for bloggers to post their dofollow blogs.

Because of RT’s consistent hard work and excellent content, Google sees his blog as an Authority blog. RT can make good use of this to talk about the place he now calls home in an informative and quite unique way. And people looking for advice about travelling to the Philippines can get help too. A win, win situation and another excellent use of Authority Blogging.

Those are two out of many ways in which Being An Authority Blogger Comes In Very Handy. There are other ways which also work and these can be a little ‘grey (or even black) hat’…

Grizzly has a brand new Make Money Online blog which is already providing excellent advice on how to make a living on the internet. However, because it is so new, even Grizzly cannot make this blog an Authority Blog yet….. But he has quite a few authority blogs and has been testing out ways to use authority blogs to show that Duplicate Content Is Googles Weakest Link .

The issue involves scaping and How Google Really Reacts To Scraped Content In Relation To PR. It makes a very interesting read (both the article and the comments). It’s just another way Authority Works. There are many more ways to make use of authority, be they whitehat, greyhat or blackhat.

So overall, we can congratulate ourselves for our increase in PR and then use it to our advantage, or we can tell ourselves PR doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and just get on with making a living online. Either way will work if we work hard at it.

You do not need to own a high PR or Authority Blog to make a living on the internet. But if you have one (or more…), it sure can help…

a

Do Backlinks From High PR Sites Count For More?

We left New Blogger (NB) and SEO Guru (SEO) in the middle of their conversation about How To Make Money Blogging.

It looks like they are in for the long haul. So let’s see how they are getting along:

NB: I’ll go get us a beer.

SEO: Make that two…

NB: Yeah, course. Now you were talking about good quality backlinks. I know we all want quality, but what exactly does that mean?

SEO: Let’s take it from the G man’s point of view. G is offering a search service right?

NB: Yeah, of course….

SEO: And they are a business. A very powerful one. And they want to keep at the top, so they have to offer their customers good quality and lots of it, otherwise everyone would go elsewhere.

NB: But their customers aren’t the searchers, are they?

SEO: Good point and not directly, no… but we’ll discuss that some other time, it can get kinda complicated. For now, we just need to know that the G man wants to provide quality searches. Ok?

NB: Ok. So what does Google call a quality search? Anything on Wikipedia?

SEO: Yeah, I know it seems like it, but forget that for now.

NB: Ok…

SEO: There’s one school of thought which says links from high PR sites - the higher the better - get you quality backlinks, so these count the most.

NB: Yeah, I read about that. Is it true?

SEO: Well, it can be. But we need to concentrate here on getting your blog on the front page of Google when it comes out of the sandbox, and links from high PR sites won’t always do that.

NB: So getting high PR links is a waste of time then?

SEO: No, not at all. If the G man has given a site a high PR rating, then it’s like saying to them “you’re quality man”. So, if that site links to you, it’s like it is telling big G that it thinks you are quality too.

NB: Makes sense. So, I need to go and get me some backlinks from high PR sites. The more the better…

SEO: But that’s not enough.

NB: Sigh… didn’t think it would be…

SEO: No. Because a site with thousands of links from mainly low PR sites can still slam your site in the results pages by sheer numbers.

NB: So it’s not all about quality…?

SEO: Well, the G man says it is, but it’s still a numbers game man. And there’s something else about PR too.

NB: Thought there would be somehow…

SEO: When a site has a high PR, everyone is after them for backlinks.

NB: Yeah, course…

SEO: Well, just think about that. You bought two beers right?

NB: Yeah. You ready for another?

SEO: Not right now, let’s concentrate first. Now, say two guys come and sit down with us and can’t afford a beer. They want to share ours…

NB: My beer? I don’t think so!

SEO: Let’s just pretend here man. Ok?

NB: Ok (rapidly gulping down beer…)

SEO: So, we’ve now got 2 beers and 4 guys drinking them. We all end up with less beer, right?

NB: Ok, got it. The more sites the high PR site links to, the less beer we all get.

SEO: I hope you’re joking there man?

NB: Yeah, course. PR get’s diluted. Perhaps you should have said we had to water down the beer…?

SEO: That’s the theory, yes. PR gets diluted by how many links the site gives out. So, if your competitor has thousands of links coming in from low PR sites, but those sites don’t give out many links, and you have a few hundred links coming in, mainly from high PR sites which give out loads of links, then it’s highly likely he will beat you in the search engine results.

NB: Ok, I got that part. Now all I need to do is go and find those links. Any ideas on that?

SEO: Yeah, plenty.

NB: Good. And with all that social bookmarking and commenting I’ve been doing, I’ve made a start on showing Google I mean business, so if I do the link building right, when I come out of the sandbox, I’ll be high in the search engines.

SEO: Takes some work and don’t forget about linking with your keywords. But we’ll talk more about how to get backlinks next time. You’ve been doing ok up to now, by the way.

NB: Thanks SEO. I read somewhere that all that commenting could count for links too, but only if the blogs I comment on are ‘dofollow’, not ‘nofollow’. Is that right?

SEO: That’s right, but we’ll discuss that more next time, along with all the other link building strategies you can use. OK?

NB: Thanks man! I’ll get us another beer before we go.

SEO: Make that two…

To be continued…

In The Beginning Was…The Sandbox.

Today we have a discussion between two bloggers: the New Blogger (NB) who wants to make money from the internet, and the SEO Guru (SEO), who wants to help him. Let’s follow their conversation:

SEO: Hi NB, how’r you doing?

NB: Could be better…

SEO: Oh? Wassup?

NB: Well, I set up a new Wordpress blog a few weeks ago. I decided what I wanted to blog about. You know? What would make money online. I checked out the keywords and long tail keywords for my chosen niche, following a great article on Keyword Sniping. And while I was there, I grabbed one of Court’s great SEO Wordpress Themes and set it up, making sure my meta tags were correct, of course.

SEO: Sounds cool…

NB: Then I made 20 unique posts, all relevant to my main keyword and all containing different long tails also. I made sure I didn’t put too many keywords in each post. I used synonyms too. Then I back-dated half of the posts and forward dated a few, so that they would seem like natural posts. This is a real blog, after all. Then I added the blog to Google Webmaster Tools, installed Google Analytics (and MyBlogLog to look like a ‘proper blogger’).

SEO: Yeah, you did good there too…

NB: But I need backlinks, right? So, next I rewrote some of my posts completely and submitted them to Ezine Articles and Go Articles, complete with keyword links to my main page and the page the article was targetting.

Whew! Was I beat after all that!

SEO: Yeah man. You did well…

NB: Sort Of…

SEO: Ok…

NB: My blog was indexed quite quickly and I found two of my posts on Google’s page 4 for their keywords, and my stats showed me I was getting hits for other keywords too, so I decided it was time to make money with Google Adsense. I found out the best places to put adsense, to Increase Adsense CTR, stuck it on, and sat back and waited for ‘the magic’ to happen.

SEO: Ah… I see…

NB: Then, a couple of days later, I searched again using my keywords… and couldn’t find my blog anywhere! It’s still in Google’s index, but it’s not in Google Search at all! And when I check my stats, I’m getting no more organic searches. What do I do now?

SEO: You’ve been sandboxed.

NB: Sandboxed? WTF is that?

SEO: Here’s a great post about the Google Sandbox. Take a read, and scroll down to the comments while you’re there, you’ll find even more good advice.

NB: Great article! Seems I could be in the sandbox for weeks, months or even years! Guess I monetised too quickly; set off a few ‘warning shots’ to Google with my optimised blog and keyword targettng too.

So what can I do to put this right? The article said ‘wait’, and build authority while I am doing so. Any suggestions?

SEO: You need to get yourself out there and socialize man. Show your blog is an actual blog written by a real blogger, someone who knows what they’re talking about and who is not a spammer. And while you’re in the sandbox, build some good quality backlinks. But make them look natural.

NB: Okay, I’ll get going on that right now. I’ll make some blog comments. I’ll Stumble a few people and del.icio.us them too. But that won’t get me any quality backlinks, will it? How do I go about that?

SEO: Hmmm… this could take some time…

To be continued…

a

One Mans Goal Progress Report

Marc Galeazzi from Make Money With One Mans Goal has been through a roller coaster ride since he bought the site from Bryan Clark. Over the months, Marc has suffered ridicule, which conversely has resulted in a heap of new visitors and many new followers of One Mans Goal. But being a newcomer to making a living from blogging is not the easiest thing in the world, and imagine how it would feel trying to learn Wordpress, Affiliate Marketing, SEO techniques and a host of other vital things under the critical gaze of thousands of bloggers.

Well that’s precisely what Marc has had to put up with.

I’m going to compare Marc’s experience in making money online with my own experience. I’m sure most of you had an experience similar to mine, rather than to Marc’s.

I began blogging for bucks not much over a year ago. I knew nothing then about how to make a living on the internet and still have much to learn. But I did have the advantage of being a blogger. I knew the basics of most free blog hosts and a smattering of html, so at least I had some sort of start. And as I was unknown (and still learning SEO), I could learn in privacy. I could make mistakes and no one would mock me. And I could learn about money making techniques until I was ready to face the internet world.

In comparison, Marc never had that opportunity. He was new to blogging on Wordpress. He wanted to make money online and he felt that buying One Mans Goal would be a step up the ladder; a money making blog all set up for him. His optimism may seem naive to some, although now I’m not sure that’s the case at all. However, I do not think Marc was entirely prepared for what this would mean. From the moment he purchased OMG, he was in the public eye.

Just imagine how it must feel when every post you make (even every comment) is analyzed and criticised (even from those genuinely trying to help you). And you know you are likely being watched by thousands of people. Some of whom will want to see you fail; to say “I told you so”.

If you are an authority in the Make Money Online world it can be bad enough at times. Fame is nice, if you want blogging fame, and many bloggers are less likely to criticise an ‘A lister’ (they hope for some ‘link luv’ instead), but even so, the authority bloggers still get their detractors. However, unlike newcomers to blogging, they have built up an army of ‘loyal suporters’ to back up their words.

Not so, if you have been open and honest about being new to blogging and making money online from the outset, as is the case with Marc. The detractors will declare you open season and even your fans with feel free to criticise your efforts.

And somehow, you have to keep going with your dream to make money on the internet, despite the untold stress this can put you under.

Can you really imagine how that feels? I bet many of you would give up, sell up, and tend to your wounds, before you even began to try making money again.

And for a while it looked like this was going to happen to Marc; that his roller coaster ride was going to go off the rails. When I wrote my post about a comments confrontation with Bryan Clark, I was feeling quite concerned about Marc and the future of One Mans Goal, but I’m hoping now that my concerns were unnecessary.

Marc is made of stronger stuff than many of us gave him credit for. And people respect that. Along with all the criticism, he has received help and advice from some of the best minds on the internet. And Marc has quite rightly taken advantage of this.

Justin from SEO Zombie has offered Marc Great SEO Advice and Grizzly, who can teach novices and advanced webmasters how to Make Money, is busy showing Marc how to try to get back his PR ranking, along with other great advice on how to Make Money With One Mans Goal.

And with Marc’s increased interest in making a success of One Mans Goal has come renewed help from other less expert but willing participators (including me). For a while we feared the worst and our participation lessened, but now we have seen the turn around. We know now that Marc means business, and many of us are doing our best to help him according to our abilities.

What this has produced is a truly interesting concept. One Mans Goal was always geared towards newcomers wanting to make a living from blogging, but even newcomers to earning online, can forget that the true blogging newbie needs more help than simply telling him about SEO techniques and Marketing. Many real newcomers need help with actually building the blog itself.

For example, those of us who have been making money on our own Wordpress blogs for some time, tend to forget that not everyone knows How To Add Meta Tags To Your Wordpress Header. Hell, when we started out, we probably didn’t know about how to read blog stats or How to Set Up A Domain Name. But these are all of genuine concern to many new bloggers, and they can watch Marc go through his learning curve with all of them, helped along the way with advice from his commentators.

And when you count in the fact that many of Marc’s commentators are experienced internet marketers, you can find really great advice about the different ways to make money online which makes the comments of OMG invaluable. Marc has made friends on the internet, an important process of blogging, and in return, his friends are helping him the best way they can.

And don’t worry about Marc taking the wrong advice. He is a genuine guy who appreciates help, but this doesn’t make him a pushover. He has learned to sort out the good and bad advice for himself, and watching the process as he builds One Mans Goal into a viable money making blog is fascinating and informative.

Despite the fact that Marc says he wishes to keep his target audience wide, I think he has actually found it, perhaps without realising. One Mans Goal has become a place where bloggers with varied degrees of experience of making money online can come together. They can not only help newcomers learn how to build money making blogs, but can also discuss different blog building and marketing techniques among themselves. No one has to feel marginalised, because all of the commentators are at different levels of expertise and experience and have different input to offer.

One Mans Goal is growing into a helpful and informative blogging community which can help people make money online. Some of this is down to the commentators and background helpers, but an awful lot of this is down to Marc’s enthusiasm, willingness to learn and persistant belief in himself.

As Marc said, when discussing how best to offer A Free Blog For OMG Readers:

There are no problems for a problem solver

Marc, you have my respect; loads of it. Kudos to you. You truly deserve success.

Make 50 Dollars Quickly With RevResponse.

In our attempts to Make A Living On The Internet, we are increasingly up against those who offer something for free. Not that there is anything wrong with free, but why would a searcher want to click through our affiliate links to buy products to help them make money, when they can find free resources which may work just as well?

This is where RevResponse comes in. RevResponse can offer your readers free resources which you will get paid for promoting.

So how does this work?

When you look at the sidebars here, you will find links to Free Marketing Help. You will also see a widget offering access to the Free Resource Center. These are all provided by RevResponse.

If you are a new visitor, who has arrived here after searching for ways to make a living on the internet, you may have already clicked through those links to see what is on offer and you will have found there are no catches. You really do have the chance to subscribe to hundreds of different marketing magazines, white papers and other great money making resources.

So what’s the catch?

None. The only proviso is that the person applying for these subscriptions has to have their application approved for each resource. Not all applications will be accepted, but others will.

And the affiliate promoting RevResponse will receive a payment for each successful application.

So will I make money with RevResponse?

You could make a great deal of money with RevResponse, but you will need a great many organic search engine visitors to do so. This is something most of us are aiming for, but many of us are not quite there yet.

In this case, is it really worth signing up to RevResponse as an affiliate?

Yes, most definitely, and here’s why:

Anyone who has a blog or a site can promote RevResponse and as your blog grows and you develop your marketing tactics, so your search engine traffic will increase. Many of your search engine visitors will be looking for free resources on the niche you are promoting, so they will click through. Many will apply for subscriptions and some of these will be accepted. And as your blog or site grows, so will your RevResponse commission. Your earnings may be slow at first, but over time this could provide a nice form of income which, once the links are set up, should work by itself.

RevResponse offers free resources for many different niches. If you look at the adverts on my Freelance Writing blog, you will see how I have worded the advertising for RevResponse free resources to show how these are for writers and the landing pages have been altered to fit in with Freelance Writing too. I intend to make RevResponse links to my health and fitness blogs too and several other niche sites I own.

Best of All:

Any affiliate of RevResponse can take the July Challenge and earn 50 Dollars, simply by writing an article promoting RevResponse.

Here is Karen Schubert, Partner Communications Manager for RevResponse to tell you how to do this:

All you have to do for the bonus cash is write about RevResponse. You pump our program in 200 words or more on your site, and we’ll hand you the money.

And it really is as easy as that!

The offer continues throughout July, so you still have time to apply to be an affiliate and make that 50 bucks. Signing up as an affiliate to RevResponse is quick and easy and within hours you could have the advertisements up on your blog or site and your article written.

Once the article is approved, you will be sent your 50 Dollars from RevResponse. What could be a quicker way to earn $50?.

And for most of us, who else is going to offer us $50 for writing one article? I bet the majority answer to that would be “no one”.

And remember, although this article is quite long (as is my style), yours doesn’t have to be. As long as it is over 200 words long and promotes RevResponse in an effective way, it will be accepted.

As you know, I am not easily impressed by promotions, but this one looks good and you have nothing to lose apart from a couple of hours work.

When trying to make money on the internet, we need to fire from all angles and RevResponse can provide another weapon for our armoury. So why not give it a try?

a

If you browse forums looking for advice and help on how to make money online, you may well have noticed posts of a particular nature. The posts I am about to refer to could be set up by new forum members or even well-established posters (the latter, is better…). You will find these in forums for Marketing, MMO, SEO and Adult and which cover all shades of ‘hat’. They will probably work most effectively in grey/black hat forums or ones where ‘newbies’ are a big feature.

The post will go something like this:

“I am looking for some help (around 50 people) with a brand new project. I have been working on this for some time and have made good money already, but I need a few people to help me take this further.

“I have the tools, the hosting and the ways to put this into action. This is not a ‘make mega bucks’ scheme or a long term plan. The money should come in for a few weeks, but then the whole project will probably get slammed, but I can guarantee that you will make at least 100 dollars a day for a while if you do things according to my plan.

“The initial investment is only 50 bucks, but you will earn double that in the first 24 hours. There may be more investment later down the line, but not that much and only if you want to take things further.

“If you are interested, PM me and I will give you more details…”

When questioned on the forums about the niche being promoted or the ways this is guaranteed to work, the poster will give vague ‘hints’. He/she may ’sort of agree’ with the suggestions as to the niche involved and the scheme used… without giving away the bottom line.

After all, this is a scheme to make money quickly in what appears to be at least a grey hat way. No one who knows their stuff is going to give away their ’secrets’ on a forum, are they? In fact, if they gave away too much you might suspect them of being naive and feel that the scheme woud be unable to work because of overkill…

So, it’s all a well-kepted secret and the poster knows what he or she is talking about. It’s probably shady and to do with gaming big G, which may well add to its charm. After all, everyone knows there is no completely honest white hat way to make an instant killing on the internet, especially with big G watching, but many of us would like to try…

And wouldn’t it be nice to have a slice of this? 50 bucks isn’t that much after all. Even if this turns out to be a scam, you won’t have lost that much, will you? So, it’s worth finding out more, isn’t it…?

Stop and think a moment.

You will have to pay 50 dollars for this ’secret info’. The poster says he/she wants 50 people to help him/her. That’s 2,500 bucks in their pocket straight away. And there is talk of ‘later investment’. If this turns out to be the case, will you have to invest more to get the money coming in?

Either way, this is all carried out by PM, and no one knows how many people will actually invest their 50 bucks in this ’secret scheme’. It could be 50, or 100 or even 1,000… Nice little earner isn’t it?

And what about that ‘extra investment’ you may have to pay later down the line? Surely if this is a short term ‘make money quick’ plan, further investment would be a waste of time?

I would suggest that talk of ‘further investment’ is there just to make the scheme appear more legit and less like the poster is going to take the money and run, and that’s why it has been thrown into the mix.

Bottom line; Don’t Go There… unless you want to find out for yourself how this ‘get rich quick’ scheme actually works.

Of course, you could be reading this and be one of those forum posters, hoping to make a killing this way. If so, nice try. I am impressed by the play on the ’shady’ aspects and that you are not being too greedy asking for 50 bucks. It is actually a refreshing change to the so-called ‘honest A listers’ and their followers, who will quite happily take hundreds of dollars from newbies without a second thought.

But I will not be taking up your offer to ‘make money quickly’. I do quite like your style though. It’s given me something a little different to write about…

As I said in my previous post, I am finding it hard to get my head together at the moment to concentrate on making money online. The odd blog post has been done, a few comments made, I’ve fiddled about with the odd bit of bookmarking, but that is all. Nevertheless, I need to get my act together and make some more money!

This is the second time in recent months I have had to be offline for a while and these experiences have taught me that in order to make a living on the internet, you need to be organized.

Now all I have to do is follow my own advice and stop procrastinating

One thing which makes my procrastination worse is that I am a prolific and speedy writer. This actually gives me more ’space’ to waste time. If I were a slow typist, or someone who finds writing difficult (or has little to say), then I would probably be more organised, because I would have to be, otherwise, I would never make any money on the net at all! But enough of the rambling…

These are my Money Making Organisation Plans… of sorts:

Making Money From Adult:

I have hundreds of adult blogs, sites and landing pages. The landing pages need no work at present (just checking for dead links and posting more backlinks now and again). Most of my adult blogs are on some kind of ‘auto feed’, either via sponsor RSS, gallery feeds, or forward-dated posts set up in block months ahead. The only work these require are RSS/gallery feed checks and checks for dead links. The handwritten blogs are rather lacking in recent posts and require urgent updating, so that’s Adult Project #1.

Adult Project #2 requires better link building strategies before I get cained again by big g. This was underway before I left for the UK, but now requires urgent attention. When I am finished, I’ll post about that on my Adult Webmaster Blog.

Adult Project #3 requires building more adult blogs and landing pages. I had slipped back to less than 3 per day. 3 per day is the minimum, 6 would be better! Onwards and upwards…

Making Money From Mainstream:
I now have almost 20 mainstream niches I am working on using a variety of blogs and sites. Some are on different hosts and some on free hosts. Some contain advertising of various sorts, some do not, but will do eventually, others will never contain advertising (such is the way it seems with mainstream as opposed to adult…). Most of these blogs and sites already have articles posted which link to them. Some are linked to others in their niche, others are not. Most of them are now out of the sandbox (despite my rather haphazard link-building techniques).

I need to work on better link building strategies now, which at the outset will require more article submissions to EZ-Articles, GoArticles and via Article Submitter. For me, that’s the fun part! Mainstream Project #1

Mainstream Project #2: I need to make some directory submissions. Just a case of getting my act together here.

But after this, my motivation tends to drag…

Mainstream Project #3: I really need to get my ass in gear and build HubPages and Squidoo Lenses about the niches I am working on. Squidoo lenses are not indexed as quickly as they used to be. HubPages still seem to be okay. Squidoo lenses provide ‘dofollow’ links I can make for my money making sites. HubPages provide ‘dofollow’ links after the Hub reaches a certain rank. Both doable and both worth doing, especially as a means of getting good quality links and for someone who writes a lot.

So why have I ignored these avenues so far? Basically because, like a lot of the Web 2.0 stuff it leaves me cold. I just want to build blogs and sites with CSS and HTML, not drag and drop. And yes, I do know that almost everything on the web nowadays is Web 2.0 in some shape or form, but Hubs and Lenses I find a lot of hard work for a site which seems very impermanent and a bit crass. But perhaps that’s just my way of thinking… Never mind, I’m sure I will make some hubs and lenses any day now!

Mainstream Project #4: I need to make some forum posts and ‘dofollow’ blog comments. Forum posts are not really a problem. I quite enjoy making forum comments with my signature attached ;). Blog comments I like making also, but here is the rub: I like commenting on blogs I enjoy reading. I would much rather be ’sociable’ with people who interest me (or even who I disagree with), rather than making comments just because the blog is ‘dofollow’. But I suppose I’ll just have to bite the bullet…

Mainstream Project #5 is not a fun part for me at all; it involves Social Networking. I want to rank high in the SERPS and I know that social networking will not get me there in the long term, or provide me with surfers who will buy the products I am advertising. But I also know it is important to get those links coming in. For some of my sites, I also want to use social networking to help me make a ‘brandname’ - someone credible, authorative, and not ’spammy’. So I’m going to have to do more ’stumbling’, furling’ etc. A royal pain in the butt!

I have set up a new Facebook account and I guess I had better get my ‘persona’ out there on other networking sites, but I just cannot be assed to be part of a stumbling et al community, and as to ‘tweeting’ every five minutes… wtf? Or is it just me who feels this way? I’ll just have to give it more of a twhirl…

And that’s only the start and doesn’t take into account the need to do this every day ad nausium, plus constantly build new blogs and sites.

Do you know? When I compare the two project areas above, it strikes me that making money in adult is easier than in mainstream. They are both hard work, it’s true, but at least in adult there isn’t so much ‘forced socializing’ as opposed to socialising because you actually want to.

Never mind. I wanted to be ‘respectable’, so I guess I had better post this entry and get on with making money in mainstream (after I have finished my adult blogs for the day anyhow…)
