I purchased the domain name I use on this blog as a job lot from Go Daddy. You know, it was one of those “Wait! We have a great deal for you!” things you get thrown in your way before you can finally make your way to the checkout. On this occasion I succumbed, thinking the additional domain name would be good for an extra email address if nothing else. But, of course it wasn’t that great a deal, as it sat there parked at Go Daddy not making me any money. So I decided to put it to use here.

The problem then was, how on earth do I use a name originally purchased as part of a package for making money online selling adult ‘products’ on the top of a mainstream blog?

Simple; I put ‘Thoughts on How To Make Money on the Net‘ at the end of the domain name when I installed Wordpress and then used ‘All in one SEO’ to give it some ‘backroom clout’. It’s still not perfect as a mainstream name, but in a text link, as simply ‘thoughts on ..’ it works ok. How people would ever find me by typing what they may think is the name of this blog into their browser is another thing, but so many blogs have the same problem (bad original choice of domain name) that I guess it doesn’t matter that much. In any case, this is more of a place where I store my thoughts about the make money online business than really try to sell anything, so what the hell!

If anyone is actually reading this post soon after I type it, you will see I have a couple of adverts for Hostgator in the side bar. You may say to yourself (if you can be assed to do so) “She says she is not trying to make money from this blog, yet she has adverts on it and affiliate text links. Who is fooling who?”

The truth is that (a) I quite liked this Wordpress theme, but then discovered that, as it is a commercial theme, without messing about with the css, I would either have to install Adsense all over the place, or put some other form of advertisement in the sidebars, (b) I’m an affiliate for Hostgator, so why not use the banners to (possibly) make some money out of until I find something else to put there? And (c) I love messing about watching the Adsense banner at the top just to see if I have talked enough in each post about how to make money on the net and my thoughts on earning a living this way to see if I’ve hit the right spot.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find Adsense to be a great tool for checking if your keywords are working correctly, just by typing a post with (what you hope will be) enough keywords to get indexed quickly in the search engines (in this case, I throw in a lot of talk about my thoughts on the make money online business and how it is so important that people find out how to achieve this in order to make a decent living on the net…) then I hit ‘publish’ and check the results.

If the advert at the top of this blog is confused, then so, I reckon, will be the spiders.

As this particular ‘thoughts’ blog is not my main source of income, I’m not too worried about the results. This is just a little finance experiment. Should I be worried? Possibly, but hell, you’ve got to experiment somewhere if you ever want to be successful in this online business haven’t you? ;)

But back to the point of my post. I turned this into a ‘make money on the net’ blog because (a) I hate to see my cash go to waste sitting around doing nothing for me and (b) because I just love watching all the crap that goes on in the ‘entrepreneur’ niche and now I have a place to write about it.

Oh yes, and because I’m a contrary sod ;)
