Make Money By Not Annoying Potential Customers
I love browsing the net looking for new information about making money online, but sometimes the results of my search really hack me off.
It’s not that people don’t have anything to say about making money and how to do it (although most of them repeat what others say). I don’t mind that; I understand what they are trying to do.
I really don’t mind when the marketers put links in their articles to companies they are affiliates to (although I would be more impressed if they could actually prove to me that they have used the product themselves and made money from it).
Trying to make money on the net is a dog eat dog world, so I understand when people will try every trick in the book to succeed and bring in the cash, and that includes banners, text links, reciprocal lnks, backlinks from various sources, whatever. That’s fine; if they can make a living this way then great.
But what really hacks me off are sites that take ages to load, because of all the ‘marketing gadgets’ attached to them.
Although we have broadband, the area we live is limited in the speed options available to us. The result is that at busy times, our download speed can be not much better than dial up.
When a site has loads of widgets and RSS feeds and the like, it takes forever to load. If these ‘money making, readership generating’ gadgets are in the right hand sidebar, at least I can read some of the article I want to see while the rest of the page takes forever to load. That is, unless the page freezes…
The biggest culprit for making a page freeze while it loads is the MyBlogLog widget. I’ll admit, I belong there myself, so I guess I can’t complain too much. But I will never put the damn widget on my blogs. I hate it!
Today, I received the latest feedburner email from one of the make money on the net blogs I follow and, as is my habit, if I like the article I visit the site to read the comments (and maybe even make a comment myself). So I clicked on the link, the page began to load… and then froze. In my bottom toolbar I saw the culprit trying to load itself - MyBlogLog. I had a couple of games of freecell and waited… the page finally declared itself ‘done’ without the widget and without anything else below the widget on that page. There was no point in reloading, even if I had wished to see the rest of the adverts or whatever may have been there. The last thing I wanted to do was have to wait again (and I am beginning to find freecell pretty boring nowadays).
But by this time, I was so hacked off with what is becoming an increasingly annoying problem, that I didn’t bother to read the page and the comments. I closed the tab and wrote this post instead!
So please, if any of you ‘make money online’, or ‘marketing’ folk happen to pass by my blog and read this post, please have a thought for readers like me. Not everyone has high internet speed or is able to get it.
And it could well be that the very people you actually want to make money from are having the same problems as me.
Not the best way to sell to them, is it?
