Blogging to make money on the net can be very boring!
I was going to a post here yesterday, but I again got tied up with doing something which actually makes me money - making new ‘adult’ websites. It’s nice knowing I have cash coming in from working online and (knock on wood) the adult source is reasonably reliable, even though there is a ton of competition, so I keep ploughing on with it.
But nowadays it seems one heck of a lot of work to keep producing new blogs. From my experience, it appears that the only way you can keep on making money online in the adult blogging game is to keep on producing more and more blogs, SEO’ing them as well as possible, submitting them to directories, linking them up… and then keep on producing even more blogs and blog posts on and on and on….
What I find so frustrating about making money from blogging is that a blog, by it’s very nature, is dynamic and the search engines appear to have latched on to this. Therefore, when the ’spiders’ arrive, they expect to see new content. I know there are some (Griz for example) who say that you do not need to update your blogs that often to keep them high in the search engines and no doubt that’s true in some cases, especially if you work with very specific niches, but in the adult money making business, there are very few specific niches left!
Okay, the majority of my adult blogs are ‘on automatic’, with RSS feeds and gallery feeds and what have you, but even these have to be set up in the first place, to have some sort of ‘unique content’. I had over 200 blogs at the last count (I stopped counting that often when it began to scare me!), and the tools I use to keep most of them running require regular maintenance and that alone can take hours out of your day.
To be honest, I am getting a little tired of blogging just to make money (although I have to admit the money I make is nice…) so I am working on new online methods to bring in the cash. And that is why, contrary as it seems, I ended up following the ‘make money online’ brigade and writing this, and a couple of other, quite wordy mainstream blogs.
As I said before, that’s when I really found the sharks! But I also found ideas for making money on the net out of static sites, as long as they are put together well in SEO terms and have good linking strategies, so I thought I would give this a go with some mainstream sites.
Well, I have to say that, for me, it’s still easier to make money in the adult field, but there again, I am only using adsense plus a very small number of mainstream sponsors at the moment (and as for the adsense, I’ll probably go over to Yahoo’s version, when I remember to do it).
The other thing I have found difficult is actually getting started in mainstream affiliate marketing. For example, I have yet to find a sponsor at C.Junction who will even consider my mainstream websites as good enough for them (and they are not that bad - honest!) I am wondering whether that is because you have to declare your country of origin and mine is Spain (although I say I am aiming my advertising at the US and UK markets). Living here does make a difference in adult affiliate marketing, so I guess the same probably applies in mainstream online money making as well.
But anyway, I am still pushing on with trying to make some decent money from mainstream online work, although submitting all those articles gets me down (and I am not gong to succumb and spend a fortune on Article Marketer, especially when I have enough problems finding decent sponsors as it is). However, the upshot of all this extra research is that it gave me an idea for adult marketing!
You see, there could be a way to use all these ideas to set up something a little different in the adult marketing approach… I’m testing it out at the moment. I won’t link to anything here because (a) this blog is supposed to be mainstream and (b) I’m keeping things close to my chest until I’ve tested them out.
But you never know, I could have the next ‘great idea’. Or maybe not. Time and a bit of work and more research will tell. And the good thing is, it’s taken away some of the boredom of trying to make a living on the net. For now anyway…
I must add here, that there is one thing which I hardly ever find boring when it comes to blogging, and that is putting my own thoughts online. I guess it’s either therapy, organising my mind by typing my thoughts out, or just a dose of self importance (probably all three), but writing about me and my thoughts on anything never gets boring! Trouble is, there isn’t any money in this …
So it’s back to the grindstone which does bring in the cash, but maybe with a bit of ‘out of the box’ thinking along the way. Nothing ventured nothing gained. What idiot said that?
Oh, and if anyone came here (unlikely I know…) looking for the next post I was going to write on another guy I have found on the net who seems to make sense, I’m sorry, but I am still reading his site! There is so much good information there (and loads of it is free) that I am seeing if there is any way it can help me make money online in new ways. My search of this guy’s site began as a ‘let’s make sure he’s legit before I post about him’ task and ended up as a load of helpful information to devour!
It certainly seems as if I am going to make a good report here. I just have to finish my ‘research’ first! ![]()
